Why did it take you 13 years to release a full debut album?
Why not! I am not in a race with other bands to see who can release an LP first. NunSlaughter has taken its time to release an LP. Why is the release of an LP so important to people? I listen to demos more than LP's. Plus I listen to 7"s more than demos. We were not in a hurry to get into the business aspect of music. I think we released it at the right time. The world was becoming to complacent with DM. We shook it up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but only 3 songs from H.U.F. are previously unreleased. Why?, are you planning a new production with new songs only? You are correct! There are several reasons for this. One is that the demos were released so long ago that most people did not have a chance to hear the songs when they were released. Plus the songs were only released on demos with limited pressings and poor recordings. Unearthing these songs allows more people to hear them and it also allows the people that know the songs to have a quality recording of the songs they dig. In addition to all of these points every good band releases demos songs on their first full length. Death, Morbid Angel, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer, Sodom, Necrophagia, Massacre ect. Why should we be any different? We are thinking of putting more newer tracks on the next LP but I am unsure when we will record it. I do not like recording a full length LP. The tribulations that NS had to suffer through with labels and licensing agreements made the whole experience terrible. Brian Sekula play bass on H.U.F. who's the new bass player? any another line up changes?
There have been many line up changes sine Brian's assistance on the LP. Brian was not a member of NS. He was tracking and engineering the production so when we needed some bass he offered his talents. Do not forget that LP was recorded in 1997 and not released until 2000. We released a few releases with Insidious. He also accompanied the band on our European tour in 2000 but has recently left the band. We have not found a permanent replacement for him yet but we have a few stand-ins.
Why is the LP/CD out on Revenge Prod., and not on Repulse recs.? Originally the LP was negotiated through another label that later folded and we were left with an LP but no desire to release it ourselves. Dave Rotten contacted me and we settled on an agreement. After almost 2 years of waiting I expressed my disgust with Repulse Records and requested to have the contract sold or be dropped. Revenge Productions had already purchased the rights to release the LP version of the full length so
he was quick to jump after the CD
Nunslaughter is one of the very few bands that show respect towards pure death metal, and it's fans. Have you ever received an offer from a major label?
II am not sure what you mean by major label. Is Relapse major? We have had many offers over the years but I never acted on it. We tend to deal with smaller labels.

Ones that are interested in releasing vinyl and have held the true spirit of the underground to their heart.
Don, is nunslaughter a way to express hate and contempt for many things, or just a way to blaspheme?
Death Metal is all of these things and NunSlaughter is Death Metal. To be true DM the lyrics must contain these elements. If they do not then it is not DM.
What do you think of this wave of new "retro" bands playing thrash or death metal?

It is a hell of a lot better than most of the other shit. If it is good metal it does not matter when it is made. Most of the bands today are like clones of Suffocation. It all begins to sound the same to me. rights as well.In the end it was a good decision for everyone. Revenge Productions got a Death Metal band for their label and we had our LP released.

Does it bother to you that younger death metal acts are achieving "Success" faster than Nunslaughter?
If their goal is "success" then that is their hang up. As soon as the underground eye looks away from them they will be finished. Our goal is not to burn bright for a few years and then quit. It is to have a long and lasting effect on the metal underground. If I wanted to be successful in music I wouldn't be in a death metal band. This is not the case. I do it because it is in my blood and this is what I want to do regardless of popularity.
How important is to release nunslaughter on vinyl? is there any profit in vinyl?
What else is there. A fucking CD is gay. The sound is not condusive to metal. A CD eliminates distortion and enhances all the instruments and notes. The whole idea behind METAL is DISTORTION. In addition to these obvious facts vinyl is forever. There is something mystical and tactile about records. A record contains grooves that a needle physically conveys to your speakers and that is what you hear. A CD stores digital information and a laser takes the info and converts it into sound. This, to me, is not an accurate representation of the inherent music. There is no profit in anything that NunSlaughter does. We do it for the metal nothing else. Pressing a record cost more then a CD and the profit margin is slim but it is not about the $. Also most 7" releases loose $. This is also due to the high cost of manufacturing and the low resale value. But then again this has not deterred NunSlaughter.
Is nunslaughter the band with the most 7" EP releases in death metal world? That is difficult to say. Currently NunSlaughter has approx. 10 7"s with a few more on the way for 2001. Exhumed are coming along quite nicely and Sabbat from Japan are true pioneers in the metal world of releases. NunSlaughter might have more 7"s than each of them but then again it is not about who has the most 7"s. If we wanted to release tons of records that would be no problem. We release the 7"s for different reasons allof them valid.
Some of your songs remember me Impetigo. what do you think?

For myself I do not hear any similarities . I really liked most of the Impetigo. Mark and Stevo are buddies of mine. Mark did an interview with NunSlaughter back in 1988 for his now defunct mag Uniforce Zine and I have met and hung out with him a few times. But back to your opinion... I do not hear it but if you think so cool. It is good to be lumped into a heap with Impetigo.
How important is for Nunslaughter to clash against the pop culture?(this has been one of heavy metal's aim from the beginning)
I must say that I never looked at it that way before. We do not try to do anything NunSlaughter simply are. We do not follow trends or try to please anyone except ourselves.

Who come up with the name Nunslaughter?
I have been asked this many times before and I wish I could say it was definitely me but I can't. It is all hard to remember so the best I can do is say that is was a collaborative effort on all the original members parts to come up with an unforgettable name. I think we have succeed. Once you hear the name one you never forget it.
What do you think of death metal bands with "positive" massages in their lyrics?(like the last Morbid Angel lyrics) Please don't get me started on Morbid Angel. I was a huge fan of MA with Mike Browning on vocal and drums. Trey was a GOD. After the fiasco with Dave Vincent I have never listened to them since. Morbid Angel only had 1 monumental LP that is "Abominations" everything else has gone steadily downhill. Having a positive message in a Death Metal band is counter productive. The whole idea is to show the ugliness in the world through the eyes of the down trodden. Once you give up on this essential element you have failed to meet the most minimal requirements of a Death Metal band.
Do you think the popularity of heavy/death metal is growing stronger in the USA ? No. The majority of Death Metal music fans in the USA are idiots. They know nothing of the history of metal and worse yet they do not even care. The true fans of Metal are in Europe. This is odd because I feel that the better Death Metal bands have come from the USA. Where would I be today if it were not for Necrophagia, Morbid Angel, Massacre, Mantas/Death, Death Strike, Insanity, Executioner, Atrocity (Conn.), Macabre ect. All from the USA!
When will the new LP be ready? will it be a live LP?
We have no plans to record a new studio LP. I would like to see it happen within the year but who knows if that will happen. We are releasing a Live MLP on Damnation Records in Feb./March. Other releases we have plans for are:NunSlaughter/Dr. Shrinker split 7", NunSlaughter/Centinex split pic 7", NunSlaughter/BK 49 split 7", NunSlaughter/Cianide split 7", and 2 live 7"s from our 2000 European tour. Final words?
