LIBER SPIRITUUM

LIBER SPIRITUUM "....Frugativi Et Appellativi"(Selfreleased) The raw South American sound is combined with the American Death brutality, the Greek Black Thickness, and some Nordic Black. It maintains the right doses, but Death Metal stands out. Production is very raw, giving power and darkness to the sound. Some songs display wickedly high levels of intensity. Zephyr is a maniac singer but he should explore the guttural side a little more. It would enhance the raw sound of the band. Liber Spirituum is another exotic band ready to deliver memorable extreme works. They just need to tighten their sound and get their influences straight. Keep an eye on this promising newcomer out of the Ecuatorian Underground scene, Which by the way, they totally hate.
DEVILUCIFER  the guitarista and songwriter speak about of futture of this dark and primitive death/black  metal band of the extreme south american metal underground

I see your is still doing very well, and you are still promoting it. What are the lastest news about Liber Spirituum? Are you thinking about staying in Ecuador or moving to USA?
Infernal thanks for your interview. It's so sad to tell you that the true band is on stand-by right now. I am the only orignal member in LIBER SPIRITUUM. Our guitar player Muerto traveled to Europe last year and our singer Zephyr got married. That's only me with a few session members recruited just to play some local gigs, but it has been impossible for me to find suitable new members and re-form the whole band here in Ecuador. It's a fact that in year 2001, me and Muerto will be re-joining forces in the States and will keep doing extreme and brutal music for our Dark Millenium Kingdom. Actually Distribution worldwide for our Cd is supported by the finest labels and distros all over the underground as: Full Moon, Bloodsoaked, Black & Death Dist., Metal Warrant and Battle Hymn in th USA; Ordo Oscuri Domini in Italy & Europe, Golden Lake in Scotland & Great Britain, Esoteric Art in SouthAsia, Digital Death in Australia; Lixo+Sonido and Oso Negro in Colombia, Magistellus Infernal and Acido in Peru, Espectro in Chile, Sonicblaster in Brazil, Murmur in Ecuador & Southamerica, etc.
What about the signing offer by FULL MOON? Is the offer still standing? Or are there other labels interest in You?
No longer I mean. Our next assalut should be a split CD until the end of this year 2001, with the vampiric black metal band from Philiphines KORIHOR. The production counts on them, and we would have over 34 of music in five new tracks and maybe a cover song.
You describe your sound as a mixture of American brutality and nordic influences. I also find Greek Black, and South American sound in your music. What do you think?
Of course. We´d rather that kind of Greek heaviness and the typical savage sound from 80's Southamerican Gods. It´s our "dirty" trademark, but it doesn't mean poor quality music, primitive old school rawness instead, that's what Southamerican sound stands for.
Why didn't you release a demo? Did you have enough money and were you ready enough to selfrelease a C.D?
All of us did a demo or two with our former bands (Fear "Catedral Salvaje" 97';Demolay " Reh 95-96","Quimeras de sangre" 98'). I remember you that LIBER SPIRITUUM borns as a project band, with higly experienced musicians in studio as well in stage. So we didn't need to introduce ourselves to the scene (local mainly) with a demo or 7" EP. Besides after years of saving money for the ocassion, we thought that it was the time to

do something serious and
professional, so we spend our life-time  savings to selfrelease our CD.
Have you been asked about your ERDAP ORTSEUN (Padre nuestro) tracks? Why did you include this version of this fucking prayer? Why didn't you take, lets say ..La Vey's version?
I think nobody have realized about that yet, since is inverted spanish written... It's a kind of mockery about that fucking prayer and the whole Christianity based upon those senseless words. But LaVey lines are also included! Making sort of blend of both.
Have you played the USA? Any plans on Doing so?

Nope. Me and Muerto used to live in USA and in Ecuador half and half of the time, you know: five or six months there, six or seven months here, and so. The last time, we did the mixing, mastering and graphic design for our CD last year in the States, then we released it from New Jersey to all over the world dated on 31-12-2000; we got a job (to pay recording and Cd burning bills!!) stayed over there around six months, and as I told you, we hope get together again this fucking year 2001!
You have used programed  drums to record rehearsals. How do you like LIBER SPIRITUUM's sound with this kind of Drums? Any plans about including it for future recordings?
In fact the sixth track from "Frugativi... (The law of Forbidden...) was recorded with a drum machine, if you pay attenion, you will hear the difference. Our session drummer's perfomance for this song was dreadful, so we decided re-record the drum parts with a machine. I think it sounds even better than the flesh & blood drummer. What do you say? (an excellent work :Ed.) Since we are actually a two-piece (guitar players), we're still searching for a live drummer at least, if no one is found as permanent for   recording and tour purposes, we'll keep working with the drum machine.
You sound very pessimistic about the Ecuatorian Scene, specially about: Labels and promoters. Why do you say Ecuador is a "Third World Country" when it comes to the Underground scene?
The scene in Ecuador is the most poser, loser and full of neurotic envy! That's for what we marketed the band as a US band! We are the more hated band in Ecuador, just for doing what others couldn't have done ever! Nobody supported us before, neither nowadays. That's our "sin", do it everything ourselves, against all theses fucking christians, morons and catholics short-hair false-metal trendy-posers envy-losers! We are really appreciated by the true underground all over the world, we answer interviews daily, we got tons of mail weekly, we got offered distro

linked to over 500 pages! We joinded around a dozen webrings, we listed our contact scene, even we are not taken by allof them as a Ecuadorian band, but a US band (for sound, quality, permomance, professionalism, etc.) !, etc. So we don't care about the fucking scene in our bastard catholic country!!   I almost forget it: ripp-offs pretty much around here...

Checking Radhamatus' playlist i find bands of the current trendy-weak  scene, however , and fortunately , i don't hears any influence of these bands on your sound. Will you feep away from this type of bands, and their image?
Rhadamanthus is our session keyboardist, he's not a part of LIBER SPIRITUUM. Of course our imagery will stay true!  NO DREAMING ATMOSPHERE, NO STUPID USELESS WINDY INSTRUMENTS, NO FOLK INFLUENCES, NO RIDICULOUS CORPSEPAINT, NO VIKING NEITHER NORSE BULLSHIT, NO FUCKING TRENDY AT ALL!, WE ARE METAL!!!
Great brutal South american bands are considered "Exotic" by the knowing European underground, still, they are worrying about the way more South American Bands, and the scene are losing rawness and brutality, choosing a softer sound. (This is True) Why do you think this is happening?
Money, money and the whole shitty fucking money. Trend leads money and money leads to make trendy music. Just false metalheads can betray our raw and wild roots. Melody and atmosphere are for europeans and for the weakness of the judeo-cristian civilization and religion. Raw as hell, total darkness, lust and destruction, this is the kind of music we must to praise.
What is the relation between the C.D cover, it's lyrics, and its title?
No great relationship at all. It's taken out of a John Milton picture, done in the 18th century for the Wagner's Opera "El ocaso de los Nibelunios". Alberitch is the little being on the top who is reaching for that shining light, after have defeated those girlslike called Druidas and Ninfas. We found it at the "Great Composers Encyclopedia" and really shocked us!
Had a good looking for us, nothing else.

Zephyr's vocals are great, he really knows how to combine guttural and screaming vocals. Do you try to keep a vocal balance when writing your songs? Will you continue keeping this balance? Or will you become more guttural?
Zephyr is about quiting for now, but we think we could convince him to stay together.
Thanks for your answering. Anything else you wanna say?
Buy our CD and stay impure and sinner, infernal hordes from Colombia!!! Total blackness, lust and destruction!!! Take a time to visit us:
