They’re one of the new acts representing the "resurrected" Swedish brutal death sound. Their sort carrer has been a fertile one (several Mcds, etc) The spring of 2002 will mark their album debut. Here’s drummer / spokeman Tomas

Why did you pick INSISION as the name for the band?

It was our former guitearist Jonas that came up with the name Insision and we all agreed to it. I think it was good name that fits the style of our music. If we would have to come up with a name today it probobly would be totally different but I think it’s still cool.

There was a Swedish band called INCISION. Have you heard about them? Was there ever any kind of confusion due to this similarity

Yeah we know about that other band Incision. I think they released a demo? I’ve heard it was only like a project thing. I’ve never heard the music though. We didn’t knew about them when we decided for calling the band Insision. Besides that we have miss-spelled the name too, he he! No, there hasn’t been any confusing stuff about our names but I’ve have got that same question several times.

Has the cycle of the extremely melodic Swedish death metal f inally come down?

I would defienetly say that it has. Now there’s popping up these brutal bands everywhere in Sweden. It’s great in one way but on the other hand I really hope there won’t be a big trend. Some great Swedish Death acts are Soils Of Fate, Immersed in Blood, Scurvy, Obscura, Spawn of Possession and of course old Deranged + some others, I strongly recommend em’ all, check em’ out!

Did any of the major bands of the so called melodic death metal contribute in any way to the history of metal? Was this just a commercial phenomenon shamelessly exploited by some recording labels?

I guess they did. Just because i don’t like it doesen’t mean anyone else can dig it, it’s just a matter of taste. If I want it melodic I rather put on a Iron Maiden or King Diamond album or something.

I haven’t had the chance to listen to your early recordings ("Mean to suffer" demo "The dead live on " MCD). Is the new stuff different from those recordings?

They’re very different from the newer material. I would say that the Mcd is more florida DM if you know what i mean, influenced from bands like Obituary, Cancer, Death etc. It’s much more primitve riffing and and not as technical in general. This development has come natural for us. If you’re not increasing as band I think there won’t be any point of continue. It was when Roger(guitar) joined it just clicked emedietly and we knew exactly what
we wanted to be playing.

Your sound is heavily influenced by the American Death metal sound. Is the USA giving us the best death metal bands in this
moments?

There are many great bands out there that aren’t from the US like Pyaemia, Disavowed, Severe Torture, Vomit Remnants, Kaamos, Inveracity, DeepRed the list goes on, but still you can’t escape from that the US scene has many high quality acts.

On the other hand, that disgusting hardcore death metal hybrid also comes from USA, what do you think of this style of metal and the bands who play it?

I guess you mean bands like Internal Bleeding, Dying Fetus, Prophecy,Devourment,Entorturement that has slam riffs and mosh parts, right? I really love NY styled DM. I don’t care how people want to define Death Metal as long as it’s good shit i don’t care what style it is you want to call it. Those bands are in my opinion Death Metal. The heaviness is really important for me.

Comparing your new demo "Revelation Of The Sadogod" (2001) to the 2000 promo "Revelation", you cant still hear the American sound in your music, however now you are playing "classic" death metal pieces . Has your new guitar player T. Brynedal influenced this sound?

In my opinion it’s preatty much in the same vein as the Promo. It’s not like we sit down and write a song and think "this one is going to sound like a US –styled" song or whatever the brutality comes from within. It all comes natural for us. No, Toob Brynedal didn’t contribute to any of the material on the "Revelation.." recording. He had only played with us like tops two months before we entered the studio for that recording so we just had time to rehearse those songs with him before recording em’.

Have you included guitar solos in the new songs? Don’t’ you think INSISION is lacking these solos?

Yeah there is more guitar solos in the new songs, we have also trown in solos in some of the old tracks aswell. You’re right, we were defienetly lacking of solos on the last two tapes. One reason is that we have always been in a rush in the studio so Roger didn’t had the time to write solos if we had done solos they wouldn’t have turned out very good either I think because of the lack of time in the studio. Sure we could have write em’ before entering the studio but I guess we were just to lazy on that part....

A cover of DEATH’s ZOMBIE RITUAL is included in Revelation of the….why did you choose this song? What do you think of DEATH’s latest stuff?

We choosed "Zombie ritual" for the simple reason that it’s a great song and like a tribute to to Death, it was after all from old bands it all started so we wanted to show that we haven’t forgot our roots. To be honest with ya I don’t care so much of the newer Death stuff, the only albums I really dig and respect is "leprosy" and "Scream Bloody Gore".

After being signed by WICKED WORLD/EARACHE , do you feel under pressure for working with
a such a big label?

No, we don’t feel any pressure for being signed to Wicked World, I don’t see why we would cause of Wicked World it would be the same thing for us if we were on any label we always do 100% on everything. But so far everything have worked out just fine.

Once Swedish glories ENTOMBED, commercialized and sold out their music in a sickening way, what do you think of this?

I don’t really have any opinion about the later Entombed stuff, haven’t heard it all to be honest. I only got the two first albums and those are two great albums. Of course it’s terrible when bands sellout but I don’t know if Entombed did that or the development came natural for em’ it’s up to them to answer.

Why is it so hard for a Swedish band to stick to unique style through the years? Is it?

Haven’t thought about it so much. Maybe cause we’re all just a bunch of posers and sellouts, ha ha!

Tell us about your next album, what studio are you recording at? Who’s going to produce it? Will you include songs from your demos? What’s the release date ,Name?

We recorded it at Berno studio( same studio as Deranged, Haunted etc..) in Malmö. It was enginered by Johan Axelsson (guitar in Deranged) and produced by us and Berno. It all came out very smoothly, Johan and Berno knew excactly what we wanted so we’re all really satisfied with how it all turned out. Yes we have re-recorded six of the old demo tracks and three new tracks, that absolutly will blow everyone away by the way,it was great to get the chance to record the old songs in a proper studio. The release date is set for the end of march 2002. The name of the album will be "Beneath the folds of flesh". We haven’t decided wich artist to use for the cover yet, the ones we have in mind will sure do a great work! So far with the recording and all we’re really satisfied.

How often do you play live? Is it true that it’s very difficult for Swedish band to do concerts?

We play maybe like 7-8 shows a year , hard to say really. I’ll promise you there will be a hell of a lot more shows when start hit the road. Playing live is the most important thing for Insision so we want to play as often as possible. When you go to a gig is when you really can feel the brutality and high energy. - You’re right it’s quite hard to play live in Sweden, if you don’t want to play at the same clubs and in front of the same crowd all the time. I’ll tell ya, you get quite bored after a while. But In the beginning of march we’ll do a scandinavian tour with mighty Dying Fetus, Nominon and Aeon, that will tottally crush for sure! I don’t think Sweden has ever witnessed a tour like that. You know it’s not often you see these foreign brutal DM bands coming, it’s to expensive and the crowds here aren’t that dedicated like some other places in europe.

Hey Thomas, how did it feel to share stage with legendary MERCILESS? Are they still playing?

That was a really cool gig and of course a great honour to play with Merciless. I don’t know if they still play but at that time they did like five gigs in half a year in almost the same area so in the end you got quite bored.

How usual is the presence of Swedish superb VODKA ABSOLUT among INSISION, any favorite drinks?

Not that often. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we’re die hard beer drinkers when it comes to alcohol. Vodka is to expensive by the way.

Who takes care of the design and updating of the bands web page? What are your favorite pages?

It’s Carl(vocals) that handles the web page. It’s the first one he ever done, so i think his done a great job. Right now he is slowly creating a new site, it’ll be up for the release of "Beneath the folds of flesh". Fravorite pages? Hmm, I don’t know so much about computors so i don’t know what is correct or whatever. But I think Spawn of Possession, Throneaeon is really flashy and cool and Broken Hope is great to. I guess there are tons of cool pages out there.

What do you think about of the following subjects?

DEICIDE and the INERATEHYM album – Haven’t heard it. Lost my interest in Deicide after "Ones upon the cross".

IMMOLATION:Gods of blasphemy !!! "Close to a world below" tottally kills!

SWEDISH PORN: Not that good for what I have seen. There is mostly these amatour porn movies with ugly chicks and stuff. I prefer latino women,he he! Salma Hayek rules!!!

UNLEASHED’S come back:

Really cool, I only like the two first albums though. Looking forward to see em’ live, heard they should be
great live.
