DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY  “Prelude to apocalypse” (Selfreleased) taken from our 7th.Edition.
This is one of the best Death metal disciples_of_mockery.gif (8647 bytes) CDs of latter times, this band is formed by three former  "Incantation" members (early years) C. Pillar (G.V). Ronny Deo (B) ; Vim Roe (D); Plus M. Boyce on guitar. Of course, we couldn't talk about "D.O.M" without taking Incantation's early works as reference. D.O.M takes these nine songs (42mnts) and blends the reknown New York Death metal sound with a more classic Death sound, lost of heaviness, large variety and speed full of bluntness, plus a thick atmosphere of darkness. Mr. Pillar's voice remains as brutal as usual deep, full and an ideal commander for this leveler. Those interested move fast. This is a limited edition, and what is sadder, the band will separate in October. Himnos Rituales de Guerra...10/10
NOTE:
Sadly the band is dead, but three members is together in others proyects, feature here a interview answered by  Craig Pillar ,  speaking about of all the history behind of Migthy DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY

Why the hell did you break up a great band like D.O.M?
We all felt the same way about it! We felt that D.O.M. was now completed in its overall task of delevering the best full length CD we were able to do and to make our mark in the Death Metal underground! Also we wanted to move onto other extreme musical styles and to continue for instance my writing on a more Doom level that is not at all finnished! I am also working on a solo Dark/Ambiant/Militant project at the moment entitled STURMFUHRER! and recently completed a 4-song CDR 41-min. long avalable for $8.00 U.S., $10.00 world. In spring/summer 2001 I plan to work with Jim Roe (Drums) on a Doom/Sludge project, possibly bring back our older project name WOMB!!!

Was it the lack of label interest?
No, In fact we had some labels interest, but they were not suffciant enough for us to sign! We really wanted to self record and release our own CD which we did and are very happy with!! Our Disciples of Mockery 9-song "Prelude To Apocalypse" CD is avalable for $13.00 U.S., $15.00 world! I have learned alot about putting out and promoting our CD on my own by previously being signed with Relapse records during my involvement with Incantation, and have used this knowledge to my advantage!!!

I know a self produced C.D is hard to promote however many bands with, less music quality and without your great line-up are every where on Magz, catalogs, etc. Why didn't your C.D get promoted as it should've been?
Like I said before, we chose this path on our own and have no regrets! It is available through us and other small lables that have purchased our CD wholesale and are selling it through there lables for there own price! I feel this is the best way of getting our shit out there, also by putting our own money into ad promotion in 'Zines, like quarter page ad's, they help out allot!!! I wouldent have it any other way, unless we were compensated correctlly, that is a rare thing to happen in the underground Death scene!!!

It seems D.O.M was created to be disbanded soon after. Were there any problems between the members? Musical differences?
Not really, Me, Jim, and Ronny are like brothers and have allways had the same outlook and deleverance on what we wanted to do, Mike had more of a Black Metal influence, and I beleive he is now working sololly on a Black project! But Me, Jim and Ronny will probably still keep things rolling no matter what, like we allways have!!! Be on the lookout for WOMB!!!!! The release of our '95 Womb demo is now on CD as a split with our '98 3-song D.O.M. promo, avalable for $10.00 U.S., $12.00 world!!!

Did you organize any promo-tour for your debut? How many times did you play live during these two years?
We played live probably about 10 times localy, we didn't play out to often for the simple fact of our sceduals of work, for we all have good paying jobs!!! The only way we would ever go on tour is if we were compensated correctly! Beleave me we already put in our dues with Incantation with touring all over the world for years and not getting anything out of it, except for the experiance of putting up with each other and living from show to show, then when returning home practically returning to no job, no house, and starting all over again, living day to day in the van!! I'm not crying about it, its just we've been down that road allready and its just not as practical anymore as it used to be!!!

D.O.M's farewell show was on October 8th at CBGB's in NYC. How did it go? Was it crowded? Did you play with other bands? Any big names of theDeath Metal scene?
The show was good, but we were out of practice and we fucked up allot! But yes there was a good amount of people there and they seemed to like it!!! As for the bands we played with I can't remember!

Any special reason for choosing this place for your last show? Did you have other cities in mind?
I knew the promoter who set up the show, and no I did not chose the place to play, it could have been in a shit hole and it wouldent of mattered!!!
You have remained in the scene with other projects. You Craig are involved in a dark ambient solo project called Sturmfuhrer . Tell us a bit about it. Is it also Selfreleased?
Yes it is self released as a 4-song CDR that is 41. miniuts long and is avalable as I mentioned before! I also plan to do another Sturmfuherer release this year that will be totally crushing with more percusion in the militant sence!! The release now has allot of Dark/Ambiant sound, allot like Lustmord, with also some influences of Laibach!

Another of your projects is a Doom project with Jim Roe. Do you have a name for it? How would you define it? What are your influences?
That would be WOMB!!! Womb was originally formed after I had left Incantation in '94 with also previous members Ronny Deo (Bass) and Jim Roe (Drums), I also played just Bass guitar and Vocals on WOMB for the ultimate low end!!! So there is no regular 6-string guitar work on Womb at all!! The production is overwhelmingly Deep with low end frequency and it just goes thru you like a fucking bomb!!!

Dark ambient and Doom are the path you have chosen for your new projects. You call it a step towards darker things. What do you mean  by that? Why do you put Death Metal behind? Are you dissatisfied with what happened?
No I am very sattisfied with what I've done with Incantation and D.O.M. I feel I can express more thru what I am doing now and it will speak for itself, I do not plan to let anybody down, just blow them away with what I feel is extremly heavy!! And at the same time is a therapy for me!!!

Wath ever happened to Ronnie Deo and Mike Boyce?
Ronny usually is in his own world, with a couple of phone calls and a kick in the but, he will be with Me, and Jim!! As for Mike Boyce we don't keep in touch and he is like I said before doing his own thing with Black Metal! We don't intend on playing with Mike anymore.

D.O.M Feature the original line-up Incantation had from 89 to 94 (Drums, vocals, guitar, bass) One of the greatest Death Metal bands. You guys played on the demo, two E.P's and the first two albums. Having said that, I'd like to know the following:
A- Why did you leave Incantation?
We all left for the same reason!!! John was an asshole!! He keep band funds secret and was skimming off of them also he was just a very hard person to work with!! That is very apparent right now! As you can see Incantation is constantly going thru line up changes all the time!! Once you fuck with the chemistry of a band you fuck with the sound!!!

B- How does it feel to be a part of two of the most Brutal albums ever released by the American Death Metal scene?
I don't feel anything! It's just apart of what I've done in the past and I will allways remember it, for it was a true expression of  how I thought and will never be regreted!!!

C- How was your relation with John Mcentee? Do you keep in touch?
The releation in the begining was cool but then, like with any other member of Incantation, you begin to see right thru him!! I don't keep in contact with him. If I see him at a show we with say hello and thats about it!
jamming with Mike and we got back together as D.O.M. in '98 to 2000!

D- Do you think your departure from Incantation was just at the right time?
Or, would have you prefered to stay longer? I feel if I had stayed any longer it would have gotten out of hand, no I don't think I should have stayed any longer, maybe I should have left when Jim did, but it was not to much longer after him!

E- Would you go back to Incantation? No.
How did you keep busy from 94 to 98 after leaving Incantation. Did you play in other bands?
There was WOMB from '94 to '96, then I played with Cattle Press from N.Y.C. (Bass/Vocals), also helped out Doom band Ceramonium (Bass) briefly, till '97 then I moved back to N.J. and started to play with Jim again and Ronny was at the time

Why did you get together to start D.O.M in 98? Whose idea was it?
It pretty much was all of our ideas since we had a chemistry together!!

What does Disciples of Mockery mean?
D.O.M. is the lyric I wrote in Incantation taken from the begining lyric of "Blasphemous Cremation" on the "Onward To Golgatha" LP! and means the ultimate Blasphemy of the chatholic religion!

Why doesn't your first 98 promo recording have a title, or song titles?
At the time I felt the music spoke for itself and I wanted to do something new! But obveously that changed with the release of "Prelude To Apocalypse"!!

What does the color red mean to you? How come your T-shirts are red, same as the cover of your promo C.D? What do the symbols mean?
Red is a very powerfull color and is part of a group that was very powerfull at one time!! And our symbol: the M Stave is a Nordic Rune symbol of the Vikings and is a very powerfull symbol with allso represents the Tree of Death!!!!

Why did you choose the cover for " Prelude to apocalypse" to  be black? Why didn't you put anything on it?
I thought the image of crude barness was cool and different, I wanted it to be not like any other and just leave it up to the imagination of the cosumer!

How many copies of "Prelude to Apocalypse" did you release? Did it do as expected (Sales and response wise)
1000, and I'm going to have to press more soon! And yes it did ok response wise, considering the resorses I had and used!
You are planing to include your 98 promo C.D in a split with the band WOMB. Tell us something about this band. Why did you choose this 1995 recording? What label is going to release it? Or, will it be self-released?
Well Womb is a Doom/Sludge sound as I mentioned before and was never released until now! So we felt it would be cool to release to the underground as a split CD with the now sold out 3-song D.O.M. '98 promo!!! Roy Fox of Necroharmonic Productions is helpping out with the pressing cost and we are splitting it down the middle so he will get 500 copies and we will get 500 copies!!

Will you include names for the songs of your promo?
Yes since the 3-songs are redone on our "Prelude .." release with titles!

Will D.O.M ever come back as a band? Could it be under a different name but with the same line-up? I don't think so! but you never know? Me, Jim, and Ronny will probably keep playing together for as long as we are doing music!!
Well thank you Craig for your answers. We sure would like to heard about your upcoming projects. Please, leave us some final  words.
