Einherjer
was formed in january 1993 by Frode Glesnes (Guitar) and Gerhard Storesund (Drums) . The
band is based in Haugesund , Norway . The intention and the goal as musicians has always
been to try to capture the atmosphere and the feeling there is to Norse mythology ,
combined
with the intesity of heavy metal music . Therefore we label Einherjer's music as Viking
Metal .Einherjer entered the studio for the first time in december 1993 , to record
the demo "Aurora Borealis" . The line-up was Frode (guitar) , Gerhard (drums) ,
Rune Bjelland (vocals) and Audun Wold (bass) . The demo was very well recieved by the
underground metalscene and it lead to a seven-inch deal with
Necromantic Gallery Prod./Damnation Dist . Einherjer entered the studio for the second
time in may 1994 to record the singel "Leve Vikingaanden" . As the demo , the
seven-inch was well recieved by the undergroundscene and Necropolis Records got in touch .
They wanted to release "Aurora Borealis" as a mini-cd . and a year and a half
later it was released . 1996 and the problems came . Members left and came . Deals were
offered and we finally sign with Napalm Records for two albums . With Audun on second
guitar and the addition of Stein Sund on bass , the Einherjer line-up had never been
stronger . "Dragons of the North" was recorded during the summer 1996 and
recieved unbelievable critics from all over the world . A mini-cd entitled "Far Far
North" was recorded in january 1997 . This was supposed to be a single for the second
album for Napalm .
Unfortunately , things didn't work out very well between Einherjer and Napalm, .
When they got the offer from Century Media Records , there was no doubt . "Far
Far North"
was never released by Napalm , so the first release on Century Media was "Far
Far North" as a mini-cd . New label , new problems .Indifferences within the band
regarding how much effort we should put in to "Far Far North was their
final recording with Einherjer . Frode and Gerhard didn't give up and they probably never
will .

Norwegian Native Art
A new vocalist was found . His name was Ragnar Vikse . As you can hear on the
"Odin Owns Ye All" album , Ragnar changed alot in the musical image of Einherjer
He
has a clean strong voice and he brought Einherjer up to a new level . Another
new man in the band was the bassist , Erik Elden . A very skilled bassist with alot of
energy to give . His way of playing contributed alot to "Odin Owns Ye All" .
"Odin Owns Ye All" was Einherjer second release on Century Media . The album
reached recordstores inEurope in may 1998.The same month as Einherjer were leaving their
native country to kick off their
first european tour , as support to Britains Cradle of Filth . The tour lasted for five
weeks , invading eleven countries . Erik Elden was forced to leave prior to this tour and
Tchort (Satyricon/Emperor) was hired as sessionbassist .1999 has been a year of rehearsing and intensive songwriting . A
new guitarist , Aksel Herløe,joined in january . Einherjer played the Quart festival in June which turned out to be a
"farewell" party for Tchort as this was his last gig with Einherjer . The former
Einherjer bassist Stein Sund was hired as a session bassist when they headed for
Gothenburg/Sweden to record their new album . Again the studio was Los Angered Recordings
and again the producer
was Andy LaRocque , known to everyone as the guitarist of King
Diamond.Einherjer and Century Media decided to end their co-operation and
Einherjer signed with the norwegian label Native North Records
Einherjer have with their new album "Norwegian Native Art" moved to a more
different musical landscape where the dismal and agressive atmosphere are conspicuous. The
production is grimmer than ever and
positively reeks of raw energy. |

A
new album of the Norwegian band, with a new label because they have
abandon the lines of Century N.N.A; its an album that we could divide in
two. In its first four themes, we listen to a black/death metal sound
similar to Samael, over all the sound of the guitars. Themes like “Wyrd
Of The dead”, “Burning Yagdrasil”, are samples of it. Furthermore,
the voice sounds heavy and some what throat but further away from
screaming of Black Metal. Four themes that I have enjoyed and shows an
unknown facet of the Einherjer. The last four themes, beginning with Crimson
Rain, already show the Viking metal facet of Einherjer, the voice becomes
more clearly, but with a lot of power, appeared with more neatness sounds,
the keyboards and the guitars and the themes are clear samples of a raw
Viking metal, who achieves its perfection with the theme Dracorian Umpire.
An album that I recommend you listen to it carefully.
Tracks:
Wyrd Of The dead
Doomfaring
Hugin's Eyes
Burning Yggdrasil
Crimson Rain
Howl Ravens Come
Draconian Umpire
