"Songs of Experience" contains three songs, for about 18 minutes of dark progressive gothic metal. All the instruments were played by the keyboards of Matteo Belli; he also programmed the drum machine and sang (just the clean vocal parts). The reconding session, that lasted about ten days, was made at Point studios (Ancona and Varese) by Paolo Petrini, who also played all the guitars; the screamy and growling vocals were performed by Paolo Ojetti (singer of Infernal Poetry, an italian death metal band), who substituted Davide Pezzoli - singer in the previous demotape. Christabel is a one-man band founded in 1998 by Matteo Belli (vocals, keyboards and programming). After a few months of composition, in February 1998 the first demotape "So She Sang In vain" is recorded; it was well reviewed by italian magazines and fanzines. Some songs were also played by underground radios and the title-track appeared on the compilation "Screams From Italy vol. 5" (by the italian label Dawn Of Sadness), out in December 1998. Meanwhile, new songs are written and 3 of them are chosen (just for economical reasons) to appear in the new demo-cd, out in January 13th 2000: "Songs of Experience". |
The title is taken from the
homonymous poetic opus by William Blake (to which the lyrics are
inspired). Moreover, the monicker Christabel is due to a ballad by Samuel
T. Coleridge.
CRHISTABEL
Gothic
Metal melody to the extreme, with normal voices, torn up, gutless and
talked. Atmosphere filled with melancholic and good soloist of guitars.
Three themes, which in the last theme, Leaves Dance, it sounds like a
theme with more Rage in its album Lingua Mortis, over all for the voice.. |
